The back of a hand

N. Lobello © 2004

When she was just a little girl,
a blue eyed blonde With lots of curls,
She set off to school and play,
The teachers new what she hid everyday,
It didn’t matter where she’d land,
Dealing with pain from the back of a hand,

Pain and hurt was all she had,
She’d get that from being bad,
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain,
Everyone knew she was hiding the pain,
Marks on her legs, she couldn’t stand,
always from the back of a hand….

She grew up , married a man,
He saved her from the back of a hand,
Until the day she ran away,
He found her again the very next day,
Marks on her body vivid and blue,
Hurt so bad , didn’t know what to do.

Pain and hurt was all she had,
She’d get that from being bad,
Nothing to lose, nothin to gain,
Everyone knew she was hiding the pain,
Marks on her legs, she couldn’t stand,
always from the back of a hand….

looking back, pain is gone,
something went horribly wrong,
time didn't heal, the wound was deep,
this time she just went to sleep,
laying in the sand,
from the back of a hand......

The back of a hand, so much pain….
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain….
The back of a hand, so much pain….
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain…..
