Over in Iraq

Over in Iraq.

we started our family years ago
its what we both wanted to do
you signed up to serve your country,
they said they needed men like you

The call came in this morning
you're going to iraq
its not safe, its not stable
and you might not make it back

What will i tell our daughter
why her daddy's gone to war
when she hears it on the news
or from neighbors at the store
I'll tell her.....

Daddy's helping people--over in iraq
he's helping them recover
from bombs in the attack
he's making life more peaceful
so we can all be free
He'll be home when he's made their land
a safer place for them to be.

days go by--one more died again
a soldier lost his life
helping other people win
I fear for your life--and our family at home
My biggest fear--is being left here alone
we love this land we live in
they could do the same its true
so you must go on fighting
your a soldier its what you do
and i'll tell her.....

daddy's helping people--over in iraq
he's helping them recover
from bombs in the attack,
he's making life more peaceful
so we can all be free
he'll be home when he's made their land
a safer place for them to be......

They stood at the door on Monday
I knew just why they came
I let them in, then cried a while
and tried to place the blame
but im proud of all you gave
for your country to be free
this was the life you chose
but not the way we wanted it to be.
so i tell her...

Daddy helped the people--over in iraq
he helped them to recover
from bombs in the attack
he made life more peaceful
so we could all be free
he's gone on home--his work is done
a safer place for you and me..
